naturallawyer: Just noting that the "1" in 13-1 is the Kings. :-(
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 8:08:11 PM

stephan: were you thinking miracle?
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 7:12:07 PM

stephan: Kane in OT...again
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 6:49:44 PM

naturallawyer: Hawks score in OT. That series looks like it's going 7.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 6:45:15 PM

ericd: Awesome... go the Bugs... even if Thud is on their blueline... Man, I could have got virtually any odds if I said that JJ would be playing playoff hockey longer than the Kings (it looks that way right now anyway...)
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 5:21:11 PM

naturallawyer: Stars in six.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:50:47 PM

naturallawyer: They chased Andersen.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:21:02 PM

naturallawyer: Go stars go.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:19:58 PM

naturallawyer: Who would you rather have in this first round, Quick or MAF?
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:02:20 PM

Grinder: Wow, and here we sometimes complain about Quick's puckhandling mistakes. Fleury is making Quick look good after he misplayed a puck to allow the tying goal with about 22 seconds left.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 3:41:51 PM

ericd: I have... many times... and Karlsson (especially...), or Carlson, or even Del Zotto would have been just fine with that #13 pick...
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 3:16:50 PM

naturallawyer: ducks are up 2-0. I hate the Pacific Division playoff bracket this year.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 2:45:10 PM

stephan: f the stars and their stupid stars chant during anthem...
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 2:45:01 PM

sneak: and those nameless Sharks D-men ALWAYS box out; protecting the crease.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 2:12:46 PM

naturallawyer: Getzlaf is out tonight. Wow. Stars have to win that game or they're screwed.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 2:02:25 PM

esaki: So what's the lesson? What's wrong with Scuderi, Regehr, and to a slightly lesser extent, Mitchell? What's wrong is that they're old and beat up, so their reaction time isn't as great and they're slow as molasses. They make all the right reads and that covers up for a lot of mistakes, but they get found out against the good teams. If the Kings are going to replace these guys, they need to find somebody in the right age bracket. Look at the Sharks defensemen -- Vlasic is good but no Doughty, and they don't have anyone else with Voynov's pure talent, but they have a bunch of random steady guys who can skate and don't screw up and don't take lazy penalties. That's more important than playing physically or on edge. The Kings need like two of those guys to go with what they have.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 1:23:42 PM

vbing: Exactly. Kings fans pining for Scuderi are as guilty of living in the past as Flyer fans wanting Richards back ...
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 11:54:09 AM

Grinder: That's because of the liberal pot usage in Colorado. :-P
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 10:15:23 AM

naturallawyer: Can't stand Avs fans but the Avs are really fun to watch. Those kids have skills. But the first priority: anyone but anaheim. I'd also hate to see San Jose get anything. If you're into the whole "they've suffered enough" thing, the Blues fans are good candidates to get their first cup. And they weren't too belligerent when I visited, unlike SJ fans.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 9:38:34 AM

ian22: Good point. I can't help but think letting Scuderi go was a huge mistake. Yes, they have Mitchell and now Regehr, but I think the Kings lost a lot on the defensive D-man front after winning The Cup.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 7:24:14 AM

esaki: FWIW, whenever I have watched a Kings-Winnipeg game with Winnipeg announcers, they talk about Richards as a "local kid." You may be right in theory but I think the spin will be that he is coming home.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 7:21:56 AM

vbing: Btw, although Kenora & Winnipeg are close geographically, as an Ontario boy, he would hardly be considered a hometown boy. Plus, Richards hasn't turned out to be an outdoorsy-type, he enjoys urban life and likes cities. That said, other than the weather, Winnipeg is a pretty decent city (thanks to potash) and Richards is still considered to be a major player due to his Team Canada performances. I think a deal with the Jets could get done.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 6:30:50 AM

vbing: Mike Richards = Brad Richards a top 6 player who needs to learn to be a bottom 6 player and special teams specialist. Someone will still be willing to take him on, especially if the Kings take back salary. If the Kings had either Brown OR Richards, they would probably be ok, but we can't carry them both.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 6:25:59 AM

esaki: You're right in theory, but (1) Winnipeg is dumb, (2) Richards is from the area, and you know how much Canadian teams love to overpay for hometown guys, (3) the other stuff would have to be significant (a first, a higher-end prospect that may turn out to be Toffoli), and (4) we won't have to pay one hundred cents on the dollar for Kane.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 5:40:03 AM

Grinder: Considering all of the Muzzin bashing I've done this season, he has actually not been a major liability in the playoffs. He'll need to progress into a PK role soon.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 5:34:39 AM

Smyttie: Richards might as well be the "other stuff"; he's the new Scott Gomez. I think that Brown would have to be the centerpiece in anyt deal for Kane. I really believe the only way to clear the books of Richards at this point will be an amnesty buyout.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 5:31:00 AM

azking: Richards is done.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:39:35 AM

notko1: I don't want to harp on Hahn and Remenda, but they are embarrassing. Hayward at least keeps his cool and isn't having an orgasm on the air.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:25:26 AM

notko1: I really liked Mike Richards, too bad he died last year.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:20:06 AM

esaki: (1) Resign Gabby if at the right price. He will only get better playing a year with Kopitar. (2) Do the Evander Kane deal. It will take Richards + other stuff but you can move Carter to center, and a Kane-Carter-Toffoli second line will be the best second line in hockey. (3) Somehow acquire one stay-at-home (does not have to be physical), second pairing defenseman who Sutter can trust. Stop putting so many miles on Mitchell. (4) Either fix what's wrong with Brown, or silently shop him, perhaps to acquire (3). That is all.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 4:01:35 AM

chiboyla: Fork = stuck in them.
Wednesday Apr 23, 2014 - 3:55:51 AM

ericd: Re topic - the only thing I can see above the water and turds is the blade of a stick...
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 11:26:43 PM

naturallawyer: My dad (who doesn't follow the Kings all that closely) said he didn't have much hope going into the playoffs because of a trend he noticed: this year the Kings generally cleaned up against crappy teams and got beat by the good teams. In years past, the Kings would frustrate us by getting up for big games and winning them, only to lay eggs against the crappy teams. He said it wasn't a good sign for the playoffs that the Kings were generally getting beat by good teams. Yup.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 10:52:03 PM

Elsu: Where were the hockey gods now? Good play from both of teams, but sj was little lucky. It is hard to win 3 games against sj, but i think it is possible! Kings have to improve their play as they did from game 2 to 3. They can manage that.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 10:08:46 PM

vbing: That was a great play, but he still lost a ton of puck battles during the game. he's better than some, but that's the problem with finesse players, it's hard for them to find open ice to score goals like tonight in the playoffs.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 9:46:25 PM

Grinder: McNabb is supposedly not waiver exempt so he will have to play his way off the team.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 8:46:10 PM

vbing: I am watching some of the game now. That penalty at the end of the game by Stoll - they only showed Stoll's part of the play but at the arena, they showed the whole sequence and Couture definitely initiated the contact. Fans in the arena weren't happy with that call, but from what you saw on the telecast, it did look bad for Stoll.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 8:45:34 PM

nocloutier: right, its the anti-cup run
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 8:14:45 PM

ericd: a half inch or so on gabby shot that hit the post and we might be singing a different tune... as it is, this team has a lot of holes to fill... I hope DL can get gabby to stay on at a reasonable hit... Richards really hasn't been the same since he got monstered during last years playoffs... game 4 is now just for pride to not get swept... we will see what happens... does DS have the balls to sit JQ and let Jones have a go?... At this point what have we got to lose?...
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 8:09:12 PM

nocloutier: buyout carter sign gaborik.. that's a good first step.. then rebuild the d-corps.. Dean has already started doing that by moving delauries sp? for mccabe.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 8:02:46 PM

Grinder: The one thing that bothers me most right now is the Kings will have to improve enough to climb over Anaheim or SJ. Is that a realistic goal for next season? If not, the Kings might get bounced early in the playoffs again.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 8:02:18 PM

Grinder: I don't think the defense has been as solid as some seasons past. Maybe getting blown out will force DL to look at how this team is built and where they need to improve. They need a lot more puck skill, defensive mobility, and speed to name a few deficiencies. Not sure how much he can accomplish in one Summer, but he'd better get to work soon.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:55:42 PM

Grinder: Another turnover on an outlet pass. The lack of puck skills is inexcusable. This is their profession and they can't make or receive passes cleanly. I don't know how that's acceptable.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:45:56 PM

azking: When you are considered a Cup Final favorite and you get pole-axed in two games and lose at home to go down 0-3 that's what is probably normal. This team is showing that they are old and slow. Time for a reboot. We need more than a tweak. I would try to sign Gabby though.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:36:04 PM

sdguero: Hey guys, Just wanna say that the best commentary other than maybe Bob and Jim is on this site. Lots of original insights and shit. :D
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:27:42 PM

lowdrive: Ok so..on the bright side we get to go back to calling our coach an idiot, calling for the general manager to make dramatic changes and questioning every long term contract the team has signed.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:27:05 PM

mattmck: Slavs looked like a complete idiot during that sequence. Have another vodka you ass.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:24:24 PM

nobska: Hawks just won in OT 4-3. Kings are going to do the same.
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:07:49 PM

vbing: @virbing: Got to go to Shattucks/St. Marys & sign up for that embellishment course. I heard that Couture & Crosby both aced that course. #NHLplayoffs
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:05:51 PM

nocloutier: well said.. mike lost his fire in the belly.. something you could always rely on.. maybe they shouldnt allow guys to live on the water in the south bay
Tuesday Apr 22, 2014 - 7:04:51 PM
